Recreational Skipping

The Recreational Skipping program is for boys and girls from 6 years old up. It is a non-competitive program where children can have lots of fun while getting fit. Lead by a team of talented coaches with no more than 4 skippers per coach; children are given the opportunity to learn and progress through fun rope skipping skills and tricks. Available during NSW school terms.

Recreational skipping sessions run during NSW School term on:

  • Tuesday 4.30-6pm

  • Thursday 4-5.30pm

Skippers are welcome to come for either one or two sessions per week.

All training sessions are held at:

  • St Mark’s Anglican Church – Church Hall, 1A Malacoota Road Northbridge

Enrolment is for the school term, and automatically renews for the next term unless prior notice of withdrawal is received a week before the term starts.

Skipping Once a week: $25 per session

Skipping Twice a week: $20 per session

Can I start midway through the term/ year?

  • Yes, subject to availability of spots. Please contact the club.

What age group is this suitable for?

  • 6+, the club runs additional sessions for our competitive skippers.

What do I need to bring?

  • Just yourself and your water bottle. Wear sneakers and comfortable sportswear.

  • You can bring your own ropes, or ropes will be provided and you can purchase from us in class.

  • When a skipper is selected to join the competitive skipping squad (we compete under team name of Northbridge Knockouts), there will be opportunity to buy team uniforms.

If I miss a session, will there be makeup classes?

  • Sorry, we are unable to carry forward a credit or refund fees for missed classes. Subject to availability of spots, a skipper joining once a week can do a makeup class in the same week.

Will there be performances, gradings or competitions?

  • As a community sporting club, we do call on skippers to participate in performances and exhibitions from time to time to promote the sport and support local community events. This is always on a voluntary basis subject to selection by coaches.

  • Instead of grading exams, skippers move through a passport of skills to benchmark their progress at their own pace.

  • Recreational skippers meeting the skills requirements will be invited to join our competitive skipping squad. Skippers from Northbridge Knockouts participates annually in NSW/ACT State and Australian National championships, and some also qualify to represent Australia in International Championships!  We are extremely privileged to have Takashi Ogawa (“TK”) as the Head Coach for the Club while he also serves as Executive Vice President of International Jump Rope Union and on the Rules Sub Committee for Skipping Australia.
